The ED-JOHN Institute of Management & Technology formerly known as Philips Business School(PBS) was founded in 1997 by Osarenren Philips Emokpae, PhD. DBA and his wife Mrs Imose Enoma Osar – Emokpae, who is an alumnus of University of Lagos, Benin and Oxford.
Dr. Osarenren Emokpae is an alumnus of University of Calabar, Lagos, Century, Cranfield, Hertfordshire and Oxford, a fellow of Institute of Marketing, and a fellow Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON), and a patron of Media Independent Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MIPAN). He is also a fellow in the Institute of Management Consultants. He is presently a member of the board of Trustees of McPherson University, Past Chairman Foursquare Institute of Leadership and Future Studies and Former Chairman LAPO Microfinance Bank. He is Chairman Havilah Open Door Group (HOD) and Chairman LAPO NGO.
As Philips Business School it operated the following institutes:
- Institute of Leadership & Management Science
- Institute of Security and Strategic Studies
- Executive Business Training for Managers, Executives and Business Leaders
Philips Business school had 23 years of Teaching, Research, Business Consulting and Enterprise Development and Served Clients such as: UAC, Unilever, Cadbury, Dangote, Insight Communications, STB McCann, The Quadrant Company, Procter & Gamble, Nigerian Breweries, Guinness, Blue Bird, Centre Spread.
Dr. Emokpae founded the School at a time when companies were challenged by increasing business complexities and managerial deficits; and his belief that properly structured executive training programmes could equip both managers and business leaders with leadership and managerial skills needed to navigate the period and prepare the organizations for the future.
This was after he had a stint teaching MSc/MBA students on part-time, and persuading the Dean of Lagos University Business School- Professor Nnamdi Asika to be the pioneer Chairman of the Board of Philips Business School with Chief Ojo Osagie-former CEO of Night Frank and Rutley as the vice-chairman.
After years of providing services to established businesses it became apparent the thrust of the school had to change to be able to support and extend quality education to the teaming Nigerian youths. Recognizing that the government alone cannot provide it all, hence the formal change of name to Ed-John Institute of Management & Technology and the seeking of approval from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to operate as a registered institution of higher learning.
Ed-John Institute of Management & Technology is located at Isiwu, along Ikorodu / Imota Road, Lagos State.
